I Love Hollywood…But Here’s A Few Suggestions!

I just discovered through our highly intricate blog-reader-tracer bug that we actually have readers in L.A. And I thought it might be best to simple say a little hello and tell those people what I think about what they are doing. Fair enough, right? I’ll begin with this. I actually had a discussion with a couple guys over the weekend about how great TV is these days. And honestly, I got no argument. When in the world did you ever think that would happen? I certainly thought good TV had gone the way of the insipid reality shows (don’t get me wrong, I’d still do one!), and good writing, acting, and directing was being left to those in the film industry. Well, no more buckaroos. TV is back and it’s not going anywhere. Here are some specific things that are capturing my attention these days.1. Arrested Development: Seriously unfrickingbelievable how great this show was. I felt rewarded for being an avid viewer. For anyone to make complete KOOKS loveable and compelling is amazing. Without being loveable and compelling, you just have Pam Anderson’s Stacked. (Lord, forgive them even though they knew what they were doing. [sic] Boobies usually work.) I mention this canceled show because it’s still amazing.2. Lost: I don’t care if people are drifting away from this show. I’m simply enjoying the ride, as if it’s an amazing E-ticket journey through Adventureland. I’ve never seen such interactive, life-consuming television.3. The Office: Can I just hug Michael/Steve Carrell? Bless his heart. This show makes me squirm and laugh, just like you’re supposed to on Thursday night.4. Brothers & Sisters: Wow. I love this show. Even though I’m still watching it with a slight amount of “I could drop you in a second if you don’t treat me right” cynicism that I believe TV viewing demands. Can we just give Sally Field the Emmy right now? And watching Kitty/Calista talk about 9/11 was unbelievably emotional. Hugs to her, as well. And kudos for the respectful way the attorney brother’s relationship with Grey’s TR Knight’s real-life beau is being love-handled. I would definitely love to have a recurring supporting role on this show. or on…5. Grey’s Anatomy: Could I please just have lunch with these people sometime? Could someone please allow me to have such romanticized passion & adventurous conflict? Amazing writing, directing, acting, and TV’s best use of music. 2nd place: Scrubs.6. Desperate Housewives: I’m getting a bit worn out by all the same ol, same ol whiny persnickity shananigans. BUT - Whoever came up with the Grocery Store ep was genius. Please let them write more. More people will watch your show, I promise.7. Studio 60: Amazing writing…at times. But Aaron, the frenetic dialogue pacing can get a bit too pretentious. I want to love this show, though it doesn’t seem like it really likes itself too much. Matthew Perry deserves an Emmy too. (Is the world ending?) Please people at Studio 60, lighten up. Be smart, but with a wink.8. 30 Rock: Verdict still out. It seems really funny, but the experience of watching it isn’t so much. Love Tina Fey. She’s very smart. Please be smarter on your show.9. SNL: Thanks for the Alec Baldwin show. Wow. Whoever wrote that show, please let them do it again. It hasn’t been this funny since before my urethra started leaking like it has. (I’ve always wanted to say Urethra Franklin, do you mind?)
