For you Christian music lovers out there, you might have recognized the song “You’re the Voice” that David Archuleta sang on American Idol last night, but you probably couldn’t place it. Wikipedia tells me that it was written by Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson for John Farnham, which he recorded in 1985 for his sixteenth album Whispering Jack (first released 1986). It was also released in 1990 by David Foster, which meant it was elligible for the pick-a-song-from-your-birth-year night for DA (1990? Really? Man, I’m old!). The judges (and most of the blogosphere) doubted that Archuletta would have picked such an obscure Aussie tune, which is true. He MIGHT, however, have picked it if he knew it from CCM artist Rebecca St. James’ album God, which was released in ‘96 by RSJ, and was well-known in Christian circles for years after. Here’s the curious RSJ video for the tune…
PS…nice shoes, RSJ. So 1990!
