***Minor Spoiler Alert for the TiVo set***
Last night, while watching Grey’s Anatomy, I actually thought I would see something I haven’t personally seen on TV or in a movie for at least 10 years: an abortion.
I just saw 27 Dresses, and wow, is Katherine Heigl adorable or what? With her starring role on one of TV’s top dramadies, and two major movie roles, in Knocked Up and this winter’s Dresses, chances are you’ve seen her in something recently. And chances are, you loved her.
Here are some things you might not know about her:
1. She was raised by a Mormom family
2. She’s has a successful modeling career, which started when she was only 9
3. Her first notable movie role was opposite Steven Seagal in Under Siege 2 in 1995
4. Her salary for Knocked Up in 2007 was $300,000 (that salary was presumably negotiated before “Grey’s Anatomy” became one of TV’s biggest hits), which jumped to $6 million for 27 Dresses
5. Barbara Walters declared her one of the 11 Most Fascinating People of 2007 (duh)
She’s set to start filming her next big hit this April.
It’s always an exciting morning when I get to wake up and smell the egos brewing of a new list of nominees for any award show. But when it comes to television, because there’s been a certain amount of personal investment that I’ve made in some of these shows, it’s nice to see some of them recognized. But isn’t it funny how award shows always recognize people that are already famous and successful? It’d be awesome if there was an award show for people that nobody knew. Oh yea, I forgot, The Tonys! Fabulous! I’m especially pleased that the remarkable Sally Field get nominated for her role in Brothers & Sisters, my favorite show that nobody I know watches. (Rachel Griffiths from this show also got a nod, but the whole cast is stunning.) Grey’s Anatomy got a bunch of big ones, including supporting actor nods for George, Izzy, Christine, and Dr. Bailey.
I just discovered through our highly intricate blog-reader-tracer bug that we actually have readers in L.A. And I thought it might be best to simple say a little hello and tell those people what I think about what they are doing. Fair enough, right? I’ll begin with this. I actually had a discussion with a couple guys over the weekend about how great TV is these days. And honestly, I got no argument. When in the world did you ever think that would happen? I certainly thought good TV had gone the way of the insipid reality shows (don’t get me wrong, I’d still do one!), and good writing, acting, and directing was being left to those in the film industry. Well, no more buckaroos. TV is back and it’s not going anywhere. Here are some specific things that are capturing my attention these days.1. Arrested Development: Seriously unfrickingbelievable how great this show was. I felt rewarded for being an avid viewer.

I just wanted to drop you a note and say hello. I’ve heard so much about you for so long from so many people that honestly, I’ve been a little reluctant to get to know you. But I have to say that I’m so glad we had the opportunity to hang out together this past weekend. I had a really great time. It’s not very often that you meet someone and then you try to completely rearrange your schedule around them. I don’t want to sound too gooey, but even when we’re not together, I can’t stop thinking about you. You know what I mean? Have you ever had that feeling? I kinda feel like I did in junior high when I experienced my first crush. Not that I have a crush on you, I’m just saying that I feel a bit giddy…a bit silly…maybe a bit dumb for liking someone so out of my league.
