Heroes: Season Three - Villains

NBC loves to tease those of us who have been waiting with baited breath for the return of our beloved “Heroes.” Last season was way too short and suffered a bit overall because of it, but something about the concept of next season’s Villains arc has me about as giddy as a wee little girl.

Heroes: Season Three - Villains

I’ve always been fascinated by the duality of man, especially how that is portrayed in comic books with hero vs. villain. In every hero there is a potential to be a villain and vise versa. Had Clark Kent been raised by Lionel Luthor, we would have had a very different Superman. The last and hopefully final “Spiderman” movie gave us glimpses of what happens when great power yields great irresponsibility. The potential to become apathetic or down right evil is huge.

You’re either in…or you’re moved to a channel with awesomely bad made for TV movies only your mom watches

You can expect something different out of the sixth season of “Project Runway” premiering in November 2008 — a move to the most estrogen laced network on television where it’s always that time of the month. Lifetime.

Out will be guest judges like Victoria Beckham. In will be guest judges Meredith Baxter-Birney, Kellie Martin, and Joanna Kerns for the finale. I may have made that part up, but with Lifetime, it’s a possibility.

In a totally unexpected move, Lifetime Television has purchased “Project Runway” from The Weinstein Company and will begin airing the show in its sixth season.

Not on board with this is NBC (Bravo’s parent company) who has now filed suit with TWC for not being granted right of first refusal for future cycles of the show after their original contract runs out.

Cable Shows Appearing on Networks Part 2: Monk & Psych

USA Network has an interesting history.  I remember watching Calliope, a show that featured some priceless British cartoons.  It’s always featured some sports like golf, tennis, and even the old North American Soccer League.  What it did not feature until a few years ago is original programming.  Its first two hit original programs, Monk and Psych are now coming to NBC, its parent network, on April 6.  According to NBC’s website, they will probably run every Sunday night in April so you should be able to get a good look.

Kathy Lee Gifford returns to morning TV (a Point/Counter-point examination)

NBC’s Today show announced recently that everyone’s favorite soccer-mom (and part-time crappy Christian singer) is returning to the job that made her famous: daytime TV. Starting April 7th, she’ll co-host the fourth hour of Today (which, if they add any more hours will have to be known as Allday). When I read that she was making a comeback, part of me wanted to smile, and the other part wanted to throw up in my mouth a little bit. In honor of my internal dilemna, here’s a brief point/counter-point examination of Mrs. KLG:

POINT: she’s nothing if not bubbly
COUNTER-POINT: things that are also bubbly: hot lava, expired milk, Jessica Simpson, and my stomach after bad sushi

Ok, so I know that about 3 million other people besides me watched at least part of the debut of “Quarterlife” on NBC Tuesday night at 10pm, but that’s not many and probably doesn’t include anyone reading this. Earlier reports coming this morning were that “Quarterlife” would be cancelled and that co-creator Marshall Herskovitz wasn’t surprised and wasn’t particularly bothered. Later reports are that NBC will move the show to Bravo.

I think this show will be better-suited for Bravo, or any cable channel for that matter, where it would have more freedom of content. However, I think it is best in its original medium, on the web here or here in its 5-15 minute webisodes instead of the hour-long TV episodes.
