David Archuleta song from American Idol 3/26

For you Christian music lovers out there, you might have recognized the song “You’re the Voice” that David Archuleta sang on American Idol last night, but you probably couldn’t place it. Wikipedia tells me that it was written by Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson for John Farnham, which he recorded in 1985 for his sixteenth album Whispering Jack (first released 1986). It was also released in 1990 by David Foster, which meant it was elligible for the pick-a-song-from-your-birth-year night for DA (1990? Really? Man, I’m old!). The judges (and most of the blogosphere) doubted that Archuletta would have picked such an obscure Aussie tune, which is true. He MIGHT, however, have picked it if he knew it from CCM artist Rebecca St. James’ album God, which was released in ‘96 by RSJ, and was well-known in Christian circles for years after. Donald Miller’s Agent Scores Coup

I’m a big fan of so much of what Donald Miller has written about. His BLUE LIKE JAZZ opus has been a huge influence on me spiritually…and compositionally. I realize now, that whenever I turn in a manuscript of my writing to an agent or publisher, they will always say, “It’s too Donald Miller” or “It’s not as good as Donald Miller” or “You’re no Donald Miller” or my favorite, “Donald Miller will eat you for breakfast.” (this picture makes it look like he’s recently lost some weight!)

When I finished reading BLUE LIKE JAZZ, I remember feeling that Jesus loved me so much…and how I wanted to hold onto that feeling a long, long time. And then I hoped that his next book, SEARCHING FOR GOD KNOWS WHAT, would take me there, but it didn’t, and I was a little pissed.

Rebecca St. James Has A Crush On Brad Pitt

So she’s dating his brother-in-law? Huh? Turns out this is a bigger career move than even Daddy Smallbone could have orchestrated. Grammy-winning Christian pop star, abstinence role model, extreme Christian, Rebecca St. James [nee: Smallbone] is dating James Haven, none other than Angelina Jolie’s brother. Yes, THAT brother. The one she made out with at the 2000 Oscars? And by she, I mean, Angelina. Eww. Cause little Becky Smallbone was probably still in home school/high school back then, which makes it hard to go to anything in Hollywood. So this means that if Becky and James are indeed sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g and nothing more, (duh!) but they become Mr. & Mrs. Haven, that makes this nearly finished Christian blandster Auntie Becky to Brad Pitt’s children.
